What makes a great board? To answer that question, RHR International and Corporate Board Member partnered to survey more than 400 directors at U.S. public companies in December 2023 and January 2024 and compared the answers from those at top-performing companies against the rest of the group. Boards in the U.S. are taking many of the steps to deliver good governance, and most directors are pleased with the level of diligence their board utilizes. Still, some key practices have emerged from the research that set some boards apart and elevate their performance relative to peers— adding focus in these critical areas can help others make a significant impact within their own board.
